Less than one week to the 2019 Presidential and National Assembly elections, Edo State All Progressive Congress, APC yesterday alleged the opposition of importing armed thugs from neighbouring staes of Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers to unlease violence in the forthcoming elections.

The party through it state publicity secretary , Chris Azebamwan,  in a statement also called on the security agencies in the state to take proactive action against this in order to ensure a violence free polls.
He said against the propaganda by the PDP, President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigeria and the international communities of the government readiness ensure that the election will be free, credible and fair.
According to Azebamwan: ” We have it on good authority that the PDP is mobilizing armed thugs from Edo state , and neighboring Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states with a view to unleasing mayhem, anarchy, and bloodshed immediately before and during the election”.
” A few days ago, the media is awash with news of how the Nigeria Custom seized a huge cache of police uniforms and other sundry oridnance items. Epecially worrisome was the large quantity of machetes that were part of illegal consignment. View against this background , the intelligence report that has come into our possession is rather disturbing”.
” As we have consistently maintained, this election is an intergrity test for the main contenders. It is an avenue for Nigerians to align with the drive to stamp out corruption from our political culture”.
“Any and all attempt to subvert the process or results of the election and should be nipped in the bud and those involved brought to book”.

Reacting, spokesman for Edo PDP, Mr. Chris Nehikhare denied the allegation saying it was the Edo Government planning to import thugs and cause mayhem during the elections.

According to Nehikhare, “That is laungahble. Why would we be involving thugs when the election is ours to win. Edo poeple are with us. We are enjoying their support”.

According to Azebamwan: ” We have it on good authority that the PDP is mobilizing armed thugs from Edo state , and neighboring Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states with a view to unleasing mayhem, anarchy, and bloodshed immediately before and during the election”.
