Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi

Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has frowned at last Sunday’s mayhem in some parts of the state capital where some hoodlums destroyed property worth millions of naira.

The governor while on a sympathy visit to the scene of the incident said the culprits should be made to face the wrath of the law.

Represented by his deputy, Otunba Moses Alake Adeyemo, the governor said, “Those people that are disrupting the peace of this state are not good people, and they are enemies of progress, they don’t mean well for the state, and they must face the full wrath of the law.

“If you noticed that before we came into government, ibadan was known for all this problems of hooliganism, but when we came on board peace was restored, and as you can see all these destruction, you will realise that these people are not Godly, one important thing that this government is known for is the security of lives and properties. They just wanted to spoil the good image of the governor, but I can assure you that the government is ready to make sure that this kind of incidence does not repeat itself again even in any part of the state.

“We are going to do thorough investigation to see that all the culprits were made to face the wrath of law. I appeal to those people living around here that they should give us and the police the necessary information about the culprits so that the job will be easy for police to do, and if you are afraid of going to the police you can come to the Secretariat and give us useful information, give us names of the culprits, it will help us to bring an end to this menace, your security is guaranteed. We are battle ready for them, we are going to put an end to this.”

He therefore advised parents to take good care of their children, saying that they are God given gift and that they must not allow them to be used for unreasonable acts like hooliganism and political thuggery among others.

“If you help the police and government on this matter we will put the names of the boys in the book and it will be on record, the reason for these is that if someone commits an offence and you put him in the book for record he would surely desist from the act. Am still saying it that we are going to arrest the boys, even their mothers and their fathers will be arrested if there is need for us to do so”, he said.

The state commissioner of Police, Abiodun Odude who accompanied the deputy governor to the scene said, “Already we have arrested eleven of them, we arrested four who are the leaders of the gang who perpetrated this crime.”

He promised to make more arrests as the investigations continue.

“Those arrested will be made to face the wrath of law, they cannot go unpunished, we must do our best to make sure there is peaceful coexistence in Ibadan and Oyo State at large,’’ Odude assured.

Speaking on behalf of the victims, Mr. Waheed Adeniyi a wine seller, appealed to the government to come to their aid.

He said, “We don’t know where the boys came from, we just woke up and saw all these damages, and we were told that one Anango with his boys did all these but we don’t know him.

“We are appealing to the government to come to our aid and rescue us, most of us affected are doing business on loan, we don’t have money, we don’t even know where to start.”
