Salah, Mane, Aubameyang Battle For CAF Best Player Award Today

The most anticipated prestigious annual CAF Awards and Gala Night enters its 27th edition which is expected to come under the spotlight later this evening will take place for the first time in Dakar, the capital of Senegal.

The King of African football will be crowned at the Centre International de conférences Abdou Diouf (CICAD) in Dakar, amongst the trio of last year’s winner, Egypt star Mohamed Salah and his Liverpool striking partner, Sadio Mane of Senegal, and 2015 winner, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon following their 2018 superlative performance for club and country.

Winners of the prestigious honour have come from either the midfield or attack; and that tradition will be respected yet again this time, with the three contenders being attackers.

In addition, the 17 players to have been decorated since 1992, have and continue to remain amongst the foremost African ambassadors of the world’s most popular sport.

In the women category, Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala will be hoping to equal the four titles record of her compatriot Perpetua Nkwocha. However, she faces stiff challenges from compatriot Francisa Ordega and South African Chrestinah Thembi Kgatlana.

Other awards are Men’s national team of the year, Women’s national team of the year Youth player of the year, Women’s coach of the year, Men’s coach of the year.

Many guests are scheduled to attend the (awards) ceremony including the President of Senegal Macky Sall, the President of Rwanda Paul Kagame, and former soccer player and now head of Liberia George Weah.

Two renowned media personalities, Sierra Leonean descent Isha Sesay and Senegalese Aboubacry Ba have been named emcees for the Aiteo CAF Awards.
