We’ll Not Take Egypt Friendly Match Lightly — Eagles Coach

Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr has said that his team would take the friendly against the Pharaohs of Egypt slated for March seriously.

The high profile encounter will come up three days after Nigeria’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying fixture against Seychelles. The Super Eagles booked their place at the 2019 AFCON, following a 1-1 draw against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in November.

“I and my assistants are not taking the friendly match against Egypt lightly.

“In fact, we are planning to win the friendly match in preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations this year.”

Both Egypt and Nigeria have already sealed qualification to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, which is set to take place in Egypt in June.

Meanwhile, NFF has penciled down Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba as venue for the match.

Reports revealed that the NFF agreed for the match to hold in the newly constructed Stephen Keshi Stadium because the Delta State government had promised to bankroll the game.

“Since the state has accepted to host matches involving the team for now, who are we to say no? We all know what goes into a game as regards the financial implication. And Delta for now has been taking care of that on behalf of the federation which we are grateful for,” a source revealed.

The Stadium had earlier hosted international friendly between the Super Eagles and Uganda and also the final of the Aiteo Cup between Rangers of Enugu and Kano Pillars.

Although Super Eagles coach Gernot is not satisfied with the state of the pitch and urged the NFF to take the team back to Nest of Champions in Uyo.
