***parades suspected armed robbers
The Ebonyi State Police Command confirmed the arrest of Mr and Mrs Lucky Godwin over the brutal murder of a female guest at the Crown Garden Hotel located along the ever busy Afikpo road Abakaliki, Ebonyi state on the 2nd of January 2018.
Briefing journalist in Abakaliki, the State Commissioner for Police, CP Mohammed Mustafa said that the hotel manager, one Mr. Emmanuel Eze on the 2nd of January 2018 reported that an already decomposing body of an unknown lady was discovered in room 403 of the hotel.
CP Mohammed said that the police operatives immediately visited the scene, evacuated the deceased body to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
He stated that before the unfortunate incident, a similar incident had occurred on the 6th of November 2018 where one pregnant woman identified as Chisom Ugwu was found in coma in a bush behind Azuoyuokwu Girls High School Abakaliki close to the hotel.
CP Mohammed said that the pregnant woman was stabbed on the neck, abdomen and back adding that the woman was bleeding profusely and was rescued by Police operatives to the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki for medical attention.
He stated that after receiving treatment and was certified fit, Mrs. Ugwu narrated to the police that she was attacked by one papa Emma who was her co-trader at Mayor Market Enugu state adding that the said papa Emma lured her to Abakaliki, took her to the bush, attacked her and absconded with her 2 year old baby and abandoned her.
According to the CP, “while the victim was still receiving treatment in the hospital, police investigation led to the arrest of Mr and Mrs Lucky Godwin, the Principal suspects.
He said that the suspects who confessed to the crime however narrated how Mrs. Ugwu was stabbed, absconded with her 2 year old baby girl and subsequently sold out the child to the motherless/orphanage home at Akwukabi Etche in River State.
“Mr. Lucky also admitted that he was responsible for the murder of the lady found at Crown Garden Hotel Abakaliki on the 6th of January 2018. They both lodged at Crown Garden Hotel, where he gave his name as Uchenna in the guest register. He alleged that he was assisted by the hotel gateman, one Monday Onwe who gave him a knife, which he used to murder the said lady”.
According to the CP, Mr. Lucky further said that the gateman also watched him while he escaped with the deceased child adding that he paid the hotel gateman, the sum of N30, 000 as reward for his assistance.
He said that the suspect further confessed that he and his wife Onyinyechi Godwin have also sold their first son, Emmanuel Godwin to one Dr. Arthur Ugo, the owner of Avon hospital Iguruata River State at the cost of N200, 000.
CP Mohammed said that effort is on top gear to arrest the said Dr. Ugo adding that the 3 children stolen by Mr and Mrs. lucky Godwin which include their biological child, Emmanuel Godwin.
Similarly, according to the State Poluce Commissioner, the Command on the 3rd of January 2019 at about 09:30 pm, received a distress call that some armed robbers numbering about 10 were operating along Amasiri Oso Edda Express way in Afikpo South LGA.
According to the CP, men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad SARS immediately moved to the scene, the hoodlum on sighting men of the command, opened fire on them adding that during the exchanged of gunbattle, 2 of the armed robbers received gunshot injuries in their legs and were later rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki where they later died.
CP Mohammed gave the names of the victims as one Boniface Bernard, 27 years from Nweke Ndiagu Ezza Effuim in Ohaukwu LGA while the other is Joseph Christopher aged 28 years from Mgbom Afikpo North LGA.
He said that one locally made double barrel pistol, one machete, 18 handsets, 3 wrist watches, one canon camera, one big containing Sony camera, one red ladies handbag containing 2 Sony camera and flash drive and cash of N23, 000 were recovered from them.
The Ebonyi State Police Commissioner also said that one Moris Mbam, 25 years who has been parading himself as a soldier was arrested by operatives of Central Police Station on the 11th of January 2019 at a commercial Bank in Enugu.
The CP said that the fake soldier was arrested while attempting to withdraw proceeds from his exploits adding that the suspect is in the habit of extorting money and goods from innocent citizens under the guise of being a soldier of the Nigeria Army.
He said that Moris Mbam has been in the wanted list of the command since 25/12/2018 after he reportedly held occupants of a residential building hostage in Onuebonyi and extorted from them cash sum of N40 , 000 and one Tecno KA7 spark handset phone.
The State Commissioner of Police warned criminals to stay clear from the State adding that the command in a an effort to curtail the destruction of party flags and billboards of contestants has established a committee to handle all cases of damage to such flags and billboards by thugs and miscreants.
