PTDF To Screen 24,474 Candidates For Scholarships Scheme



The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) said it is set to commence the process of screening the 27,474 candidates applied for the various platforms of her scholarship scheme for the 2019/2020 academic year.

The scheme will offer some successful applicants the opportunity to do their postgraduate or doctorate degree overseas under a PTDF Strategic Partnership arrangement with universities in UK, Germany and France.

Similarly, under PTDF Local Scholarship Scheme some others will get the Fund’s support for the Undergraduate, Masters and PhD Scholarship awards in Nigerian Federal Universities.

According to a statement issued by the spokesman of the Fund, Kalu Otisi, gave the breakdown of the applications as follows, 15,822 candidates applied for the Overseas Scholarship Scheme in the MSc category, while 3,501) applications were received for the PhD scholarship award.

A total of 8,151) applied for the PTDF Local Scholarship Scheme, out of which 3,740 applications were for the Undergraduate award, 3,393 for MSc and 1,017 for PhD.

The statement added that application window for the Overseas Scholarship Scheme closed on December 31, 2018 while that of the Local Scholarship (LSS) expired on November 16, 2018. The application period for both Schemes lasted six weeks respectively.

Mr. Otisi stated that the next stage is that of processing the screening of candidates for interview shortlist.

The process according to him, will be based on the following criteria; class of degree, O-level grades, and strength of personal statement. He noted that only those who meet the minimum requirements for each category of the programme and those who possess the best credentials based on the strength and quality of their qualifications and relevance of their proposed study to the Fund’s mandate and the oil and gas industry will be invited for interviews at a date to be announced by the Fund.

He therefore advised applicants to look out for notifications from PTDF for further information in respect of their applications.
