The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has commended the management of LEADERSHIP Group Limited for awarding Super Falcon the prestigious ‘LEADERSHIP Sportspersons of the Year 2018’.
The award which was presented to the nine-time African champions, alongside other award winners at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, yesterday, was in recognition of the senior female national football team’s outstanding performance in the year 2018.
Reacting to the award, NFF Secretary-general, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, lauded the LEADERSHIP Group Limited for the honour, saying it will serve as motivating factor for the team to win more trophies for the country as they continue their preparation for the forthcoming FIFA Women World Cup in France.
He called on Nigerians to support the development of women football in the country.
“We are grateful to the management of LEADERSHIP Group Limited for rewarding handwork and dedication of our female national team, who are the most successful team in Africa,” he said.
“This award will spoils the team ahead of the women’s World Cup in France as they seek to make the nation proud, while we call on Nigerians to support the development of women football in the country.”
It would be recalled, that the Thomas Dennerby led side continue to show their supremacy in African women football as they defeated South Africa’s Banyana Banyana 4-3 on penalties to lift the 2018 African Women Nations Cup (AWCON) for a record-breaking 9th times last December.
The African champions also booked their place in this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup which will be hosted by France later in June.
