Nigeria Customs Eyes Africa Volleyball Club Championship Title

The Nigerian Custom’s female volleyball team said they are going all out to win this year’s edition of the African Women Volleyball Club Championship.

The country’s representative has begun preparation for the continental club championship slated to hold from Thursday, March 14 to Monday, March 25th, 2019.

Sports secretary of the Nigeria Custom Service, Samuel Onikeku who spoke to LEADERSHIP sports during the team’s training session at the indoor sports complex of the Abuja National Stadium, at the weekend, said the team is fully ready to do the nation proud.

“We have been in camp for three weeks now because we are aiming to go higher. We have five weeks to prepare ourselves so that we can do the nation proud at the tournament,” he said.

“We have done some changes in our coaching crew and we are also using international referees to update our team on all the latest rule of the game in other to avoid any infringement during the games.”

According to him, “We are ready for the games with the great support from the Controller General of Customs, who has approved all what we need in time to make a successful outing. We have no reason to fail and anything short from semifinal is a setback,” he added.

The country’s representative will seek to go past their quarterfinals elimination last year as the Nigerian team is set to present 14 female players to the tournament, which will be led by the U-18 national head coach, Yusuf Abdulkadir.

The championship will be expected to be attended by 21 clubs from other African countries.
