Vandals Bag 2 Years Imprisonment

The chief magistrate in Maiyama, Kebbi State, Alhaji Hassan Kwaido, has sentenced two vandals, Yusuf Isah, 22,  and Abdul-Wasi’u Imamu, 27, of Gidiga Village, Maiyama local government to two years imprisonment for criminal conspiracy and theft of power cables belonging to the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company.

They were also sentenced to six months’ imprisonment without option of fine for criminal conspiracy.

The convicts were tried for power cables theft, which came with an option of N364,000 to be paid to the Kaduna Electric Distribution Company, being the value of the cables.

They were arraigned by the prosecuting police officer, Sergeant Isuwa Hamidu, who told the court that the accused were apprehended at about 3 am on Sunday, 17th February, 2019 by the community youths, with the help of vigilance group in Gidiga village.

The accused persons were reported to have cut and made away with all the power cables of Gidiga village sub-station.

Yusuf said that he learned how to steal electricity cables form Benin and had masterminded and lured his cousin, Abdul-Wasi’u Imamu into the ignoble trade.

On his part, Imamu said that “it is my first time, I have never done it before and Yusuf asked me to follow him that nothing will happen.”

Kaduna Electric’s spokesman, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, hailed the judgement and warned the public to desist from such nefarious activities.
