The Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Katsina State, Ibrahim Zarewa on Saturday reassured voters in the state that their votes for the Governorship and State Assembly elections will count.

Zarewa, who gave the assurance when he fielded questions from newsmen in Daura, Katsina State, said the Independent National electoral Commission (INEC) had provided a level playing ground for all candidates participating in the election.

He expressed the hope that the conduct of the election would be much better than the presidential and national assembly elections held on Feb. 23 across the country.

According to him, INEC has worked on the lapses recorded during the Presidential and National Assembly elections to ensure seamless process.

He said: “We are giving guarantee to all the people of Katsina State that we have done what we should absolutely do and we are giving them equal level playing field, that is, the political parties and we are allowing the people to exercise their voting right without hindrance.

“We are committed to giving them what they have elected.

“After every election, what we do is to review and see our performance to see where we had strengths and weaknesses and where we had strength, we reinforce that, where we had weaknesses, we address them.

“You will recall that we had Presidential and National Assembly elections two weeks ago and after the usual review, we have now worked on areas like the capacity of our Staff, the workings of the card readers and the general performance in electoral duties.

“So we have addressed that and now we are recording considerable improvement during these elections for Governor and state Assembly members.’’

Zarewa disclosed that deployment of personnel was done in good time while additional training were given to the Staff in respect of the operations of the card reader and how to fill the result forms.

“This time around, the materials reached the Local Governments three days ago and much earlier to the wards and our people are in high spirits,’’ he added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that results of the gubernatorial and state house of assembly were still been collated at ward and local government levels as at the time of filing this report.
