…As PDP Chieftain, Uche Onyeagucha Tears Result Sheet
It was a chaotic scene when a PDP’s agent and Chieftain, Uche Onyagocha, tore the certified INEC result sheet of Ideato South LGA, causing the officials to take an abrupt break in the collation process, LEADERSHIP reports.
As observed on Live TV, the PDP agent had demanded that the result from the said Local Government Area should not be announced, alleging that party agents were not allowed at the collation centre of the affected LGA. But other party agents countered this allegation and urged the State Returning Officer, Prof. Francis Otunta, to proceed with the announcement, adding that what the PDP agent alleged rather took place at Mbaise LGA where the PDP candidate, Emeka Ihedioha, won with questionable high number of votes.
Thus, when the returning officer proceeded with the result announcement after consultations, the PDP Agent, stepped up and forcefully tore the result sheet in contention, prompting another party agent to do same to other already announced result sheets.
But according to reliable reports, the real reason the PDP agent tore the result sheets of Ideato LGA was because it was clear that the candidate of AA, Mr Uche Nwosu, had won the Local Government with a wide margin. Additionally, the PDP camp was said to have been thrown into palpable panic as signs emerged that Mr Uche Nwosu might win the overall election and be returned as the Governor-elect, following the inability of the PDP candidate to secure the 25% of the votes cast in 18 LGAs of the state, as required by law.
The apprehension of losing was said to have become more intense within the PDP camp as the result from Abo Mbaise was rejected due to alleged over-voting. Out of the results announced so far, the Uche Nwosu’s AA has won in 5 LGAs while Emeka Ihedioha’s PDP has won in 4 LGAs. APGA also won in one LGA, while Hope Uzodinma’s APC has not won any LGA.
Due to the interruption by the PDP’s thugs, the INEC officials took a break to resume collation by 9am. 11 LGAs have so far been announced, with 16 more to go after the break.
Nigerians have taken to social media to condemn the move by INEC to go on recess till 9am, as some described the step as capable of undermining the credibility of the the process. The alleged over-voting at Mbaise in favour of the PDP is also a major trending topic as Nigerians on social media raise eye brows, especially over the chasing of party agents from the collation centre of the LGA.
