African Cup 2019: CFN President Assures Nigerians Of Successful Outing



Ahead of the maiden African Track Championship, genetically known as African Cup 2019, president of the Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN), Giandomenico Massari revealed that preparations are being intensified to host a successful continental game.  The championship is scheduled to run from July 27 to 28 at the Velodrome, Package A, Abuja National Stadium is expected to see more than 10 African countries vying for

the ultimate prize. Massari, while speaking to newsman yesterday at the Velodrome, Package A, Abuja National Stadium, hinted that the federation is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the Nigerian not only perform well at the African Cup but win the outstanding gold medals. “The infrastructure at the stadium is good enough to host the upcoming game, aside hosting the championship, Nigeria will be the centre for West Africa and beyond in terms of training and churning

out talents,” he said. “Also the federation has already mapped out strategies and training for both male and female athletes billed for next month, We are doing a lot to prepare our athletes for the championship and we want to assure Nigerians that our athletes will do the nation proud in the Africa showpiece’’. Among other expectations, Massari opined that the Nigerian Federation will cater for accommodation, feeding, transportation and sundry technical and medical sup

port to the participating countries.  International Cycling Union (UCI) is expected to provide technical and equipment support for the African championship. He, however, underscored the federation’s achievement in South Africa, “ Nigeria is now a force to reckon with in the world cycling sports, Gladys Tombrakpa and Mary Samuel, stunned cycling enthusiasts after winning in between themselves, seven medals at an international championship held in South Africa” he concluded.
