As part of its efforts to achieve open defecation free society by 2025, the Federal Ministry of Water Resources has launched a site to aid the campaign in the country.

The website, Cleannigeria.ng, according to the Federal Government, will serve as a link between the government and the public in monitoring the progress being made in the country towards achieving the reality of open defecation free by 2025.

While launching the site at the weekend, the minister of Water Resources, Engr Suleiman Adamu, said “the ministry has put in place the clean Nigeria program to end open defecation in Nigeria by 2025 with the slogan ‘clean Nigeria; use the toilet.”

In his address during a media conference held at the ministry to mark the 2019 World Water Day, the minister informed that, “I am delighted to address you on the occasion of the launch of the Open Defecation Free (ODF) website, which will serve as a link with the public and to monitor the progress being made across the country on ending open defecation in Nigeria by 2025. This has come at no better time than today as we commemorate 2019 World Water Day.

“The ministry, with support from UNICEF, other partners and the media have developed a separate website for the ODF campaign, which will create awareness and sensitise the general public on activities of the clean Nigeria programme.

“The Cleannigeria.ng is the official website for the national campaign to end open defecation. It is one aspect of the campaign to visualise information for advocacy and communication. We want users to be inspired to take action and contribute their quota to the progress being made to end open defecation in Nigeria.”

Reports affirm it that 47million Nigerians practise open defecation with the country ranking second to India, among countries with the indecent act.
