Isanlu Community To Immortalise Pius Adesanmi

Prof. Pius Adesanmi,

The Isanlu community of Yagba East local government area of Kogi state has initiated plans to immortalize late Prof Pius Adesanmi.

Recall that late Prof Pius Adesanmi died on March 10 aboard Ethiopian Airlines flight 302 which took off from Addis Ababa and was headed to Nairobi, but crashed barely six minutes after take-off.

Speaking at the tribute night organised by friends and family of the deceased, the Agbana of Isanlu (elect), Oba Moses Babatunde Etombi said, “We have a community secondary school that we may name after him. We will also have a week- long activity annually on literature and we are going to have a lecture every year where they will take us for a whole week on the impact he has made and the occasion will draw people from all walks of life. It will also encourage our youths to be enlightened and how we can develop from where we are.

“I will have to discuss with my Council and even if we cannot name any of our secondary schools after him, we will definitely build an institution that we will be able to name after him and people will be able to ask after years about Pius.

Speaking on the life of the late Adesanmi, the monarch said, “it is not about how long but how well.

He lived for 47 years but the impact he made in our community from secondary school that we knew him has been remarkable and he lived a very fulfilled life.

“Everyday, he made sure that he touched lives. There is no day you read about him that he is not talking about the decaying society in Nigeria. He wanted a better society, especially in education. If there is any loophole, he will always point it out and always write about how it is supposed to be.

“He has touched so many lives. Sometimes you may like him, sometimes you may not like him but the truth is always the truth and he always pointed it out.”

Meanwhile, Kogi state commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Rosemary Osikoya, while speaking at the event, said the Kogi state government will definitely support the idea of immortalising Prof. Adesanmi.

She lamented that Adesanmi ’s death came at a time when the ministry was reaching out to Kogi scholars like him who could help put the educational standard of the state on high pedestal.

The commissioner said that Adesanmi represented what Kogi indigenes were known for as very talented people, adding that the scholar exemplified all the virtues “ you would like to see in Nigeria .”
