FCTA Takes Over Welfare Of Displaced Orphanage Children

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has offered to cater for the over 150 displaced children of an orphanage home, Divine Wounds of Jesus Christ Orphanage and Rehabilitation Home, Kubwa-Abuja.

Speaking when he received the children in his office yesterday, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Muhammad Musa Bello, said that the administration is now in-charge of the children’s welfare.

Represented by the FCT permanent secretary, Chinyeaka Ohaa, the minister said however that the children would be taken back to their orphanage home, in Kubwa, where they would be taken proper care of by the welfare department of the FCT Social Development Secretariat (SDS).

“The minister has directed that the children should go back to their orphanage home in Kubwa, while the proprietress continues to take care of them, in collaboration with the administration.

“We will now take it up from here and will ensure the welfare of these children from this moment. We will work with the proprietress of the home, to know what has gone wrong. What is uppermost for the administration is ensuring that the children are taken care of.

In fact, they are now under our care, because we must take care of them. The welfare department will be there, to monitor what is happening. If we feel that the new place is not conducive enough for them, we must apply the law.”

Also speaking, the head girl of the school, Miss Lawrence Olajumoke, said that the children are happy for being allowed to return to their orphanage home, instead of being taken to a new environment, which might not be convenient for them.
