Police Parades Arm Robbers, Cultists Allegedly Terrorising Benue



Benue state Police Command has arrested and paraded 15 suspected arm robbers and cult members terrorising the state with various kinds of arms and ammunitions recovered from them

The state commissioner of Police, Omololu Bishi who made this known while conducting journalists round the paraded suspects explained that the command in its resolve to rid Benue off criminal elements  arrested a five man suspected arm robbery gangs who are  found of blocking  Abakwa , Ugbema road in Buruku Local government area  and robbing motorists of their belongings.

According to him, luck ran out the robbers when they intercepted a lorry conveying mattresses and were off loading them into the bush, a patrol team of stop and  search  arrived the venue and gave  the robbers  a chase to the bush where 9  mattresses were recover in their hideout with three locally made pistols, two single barrel guns, two live ammunitions, two live cartridges, several arms and ammunitions and five of the robbers including their leader Felix Ionguga were arrested while other members of the gang are still at large.

The CP also informed that another  arm robber suspect  Joshua Okoro of Yaikyor area in Makurdi  who was  wondering around in a suspicious manner in the dead night was arrested by the police patrol team around woodland park,  with a pistol loaded with one live catridge while  Destiny Gbatima  who broke into one house around railway crossing at high level was also arrested following a distress call, with a locally made pistol.

In the same vein, the CP disclosed that a team of  policemen on a routine patrol in Otukpo  arrested  eight Cultists terrorising the axis in different locations of the town and recovered  five locally made pistols, four cartridges, one AK47 Bayonet, nine live ammunitions and one camouflage.

In an interview with the leader of the arm robber gang Felix Ionguga who confirmed he was caught in the act, told correspondent that this was his second time in the robbery business, but however  said the recovered weapons were owned by noe of their members who is at large.

While Inalegwu Onyilo who was paraded alongside some cult members however denied being a member of any cult.

According to him, he is an Okada rider in Otukpo and was called by a neighbour John Oche to take him to a suya joint and on their way back were intercepted by the police who search him and found nothing and also  search Oche, and found on him  a gun, that was how he became a culprit.

“I was heading home after my Okada business around 9 pm and I receive a call from Oche to come and take him to a suya joint and I came, we went there the suya people had already closed, on our way back the police stop me and I stop, they search me and found nothing, when whey search my passenger he was with gun, that was why they arrested two of us, I am not a cult member, I am  an Okada rider”

Oche however denied ownership of the pistol saying he wanted to ease himself at the side of the road and that was where he saw and pick it.

CP Bishi while commending the citizens of the state for their support and cooperation to rid the state off crime warned parents and care givers to caution their wards to avoid companies that will led them to crime or face stiff resistance from the police.
