Residents in Kaduna metropolis have lamented the inability of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO, to supply adequate power as severe hot weather bit harder.

Despite the non constant electricity supply in many areas, residents told our correspondent that those without prepared meters are still paying higher electricity bills.

Mrs Joy Eze, in Television Yam market who owns a shop said she did not see electricity in the last eight months: “Our situation is now worst, the entire Television Yam market with close to one thousand shops is without light for eight to nine months.

Imagine if NEPA manager or it staff own a shop with refrigelators in this popular place and did not see light for eight months, including under this heat, how can they feed their families and feel?

But this is what is happening to us here. Its unfortunate”

Another KEDCO customer at Abeokuta street Jos Road,Kaduna, Sani Suleiman, cried that his shop used generator but still pay electricity bill: ” If you complain to them they can disconnect your light and before they reconnect you must pay the reconnection money.

As a business person, you open shop in the morning till evening without light and you close home. At month end,you pay electricity bill for not consuming any light”

Further checks revealed that, just few locations are having eight hours light per day, while others wish to have at least two hours light.

Some of the residents said before there was almost constant electricity especially in Government Residential Areas,GRAs but wondered why power issue is now worst in Kaduna.

A social media user, Yunusa Muhammed Makarfi, also lamented : ” The present day electricity suppliers have nothing to learn from the past. For over one week now some areas in Kaduna are in total darkness and nothing is heard from KEDCO”

Meanwhile, attempt to reach officials of the KEDCO officials for comment were not successful.
