Group Demands Justice For Slain NSCDC Officer

The Joint Civil Society Action Against Extrajudicial Killings has demanded justice for late Mr. Ogar Jumbo, an Assistant Superintendent of Nigerians Security and Civil Defence  Corps  (NSCDC) who was recently beaten to death by policemen for violating traffic rules  in Nyanya, Abuja .

The group who made the call yesterday during a press briefing in Abuja called on the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to constitute a commission of Inquiry to investigate all cases of extra judicial killings by officers of the Nigerian Police Force across country.

Convener of the group, Paul Edeh, who recalled that a day after the murder of Jumbo, the Police Public Relations Officer ASP Frank Mba issued a statement on behalf of the Nigerian Police Force that Jumbo slumped while being interrogated and died a natural death, urged that the autopsy report be published within 24 hours for Nigerians to know the real cause of his death.

Edeh however called on the acting IGP to investigate and met-out commensurate sanctions based on the report of the commission of Inquiry  as well as prosecute any police officer found culpable in the killing of innocent Nigerians to serve as a deterrent to other officers.

He further called for the arrest of the the Divisional Police Officer of Nyanya Police station Mr. Igekele Ogunfemi, and his men involved in beating Jumbo to death, adding that they should be investigated and prosecuted along with the two Police men said to be in custody.

He however called on the Ag. IGP to pay a condolence visit to the widow of Jumbo to commensurate with her over the brutal killing of her husband.
