YSFON Wields Big Stick As Arewa Youth FC Win Nimrod’s Cup



Kaduna State chapter of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) wielded the big stick when the Secretary, Abdukrazak Usman, announced a two- year ban on GS Academy Football Club from featuring in the Engineer Musa Nimrod YSFON inter community peace Soccer competition following unruly behavior from one of their fans.

A youth identified as a fan of the GS Academy had rushed into the field at the blast of the whistle to signal end of final match against eventual winner, Arewa Youth FC, at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, on Sunday and slapped from behind the center referee who was walking out of the pitch.

  Kaduna State YSFON Secretary who witnessed the incident, apologized profusely to the dignitaries who also witnessed the ugly incident.

Among the prominent personalities who witnessed the finals were Kaduna State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Culture, Hon Daniel Danauta, Engineer Musa Nimrod, sponsor of the tournament, representative of the Zonal Coordinator, Northwest Zone, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, Malam Abdullahi Idris, Secretary, Kaduna State FA, Alhaji Abdusalam Jere, among others.

The YSFON Secretary said, “I sincerely on behalf of the YSFON and the organizing committee apologize for the gross misconduct of one of the fans or supporters of GS Academy. Everyone saw how he rushed into the pitch and slapped the referee.

“We all will agree the referee did very well in the final match which we watched. We cannot condone indiscipline of this nature, hence the competition is tagged: Engr Musa Nimrod Peace and Unity football Competition.This is the type of indiscipline and unruly behaviour we are trying to curb, especially among our youth.Therefore, GS Academy Football Club is banned for two years.”

   In the final of the competition, Arewa Football Academy, Ungwan Muazu  emerged champions of the third edition of Engineer Musa Nimrod Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) Soccer Competition.

The team trounced another youthful side, GS Football Academy Rigasa by 2-0 in the final played  at the main bowl, Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Sunday.

Arewa took the lead by opening scoring in the 23rd minute of the match, to the delight of their supporters who thronged the venue to witness the epic final.

Few minutes to end of game, Arewa hit the second goal via spot kick after an infringement, to seal their victory.

They smiled home with a giant trophy, five footballs, medals and cash prize of N30,000, while runners-up, GS Academy got three footballs and N20,000.

e third and fourth placed teams each were equally presented with five footballs each.

In the Special Prizes category,  Most Valuable Player was won by tall, lanky, Abubakar Usman of Arewa Academy, whose efforts greatly influenced his team’s victory.

Meanwhile, in other categories of the competition, Kakuri Academy beat Fancy Stars Tudun Wada 1-0 to emerge champions to lift the giant trophy of the U-10, which was decided earlier.

In the U-16 category, Bityong Academy Zonkwa defeated Kuso Boys Doka 2-1 to lift the equally giant trophy.
