Employers Must Accept Corps Members – Masari

Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari yesterday insisted that the acceptance of members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) by employers is mandatory.

This is coming on the heels of rampant rejection of corps members posted to some establishments in the country in a clear violation of the provisions of NYSC Scheme.

In a bid to curtail the abuse in the state, Governor Masari warned corps employers not to reject corps members posted to them.

The governor, represented by his special adviser on Youth Development, Alhaji Aminu Khalil Ibrahim, made this known at the closing ceremony of the 2019 Batch ‘A’ orientation course yesterday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Katsina.

“At this juncture, I want to warn corps employers not to reject corps members posted to them. The rejection of corps members by employers is inconsistent with the spirit and objectives of the NYSC scheme. I therefore call for a mandatory acceptance by all employers of corps members posted to their establishments,” he stated.

Earlier, the state NYSC coordinator, Hajiya Ramatu Sanda, noted that the posting of the corps members deployed to the state was in total compliance of with the Federal Government posting policy for corps members to serve in the four key sectors of the economy: education, health, agriculture and infrastructure, to make the scheme more relevant to the nation.

Sanda urged the corps members to remain worthy ambassadors of the scheme and exhibit the virtues of honesty, tolerance and humility to make their service year memorable and rewarding.

She also appealed to corps members’ employers to accept corps members posted to them and give them the opportunity to contribute their skills and talents to improve the conditions of their host communities.
