A two-year-old girl, Amira Bello, was found dead in a soakaway pit in Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi, on Thursday.
An eye witness, Maniru Shehu, who is also a resident of the area, told LEADERSHIP Sunday that the father of the girl, Malam Bello, reported to neighbours and relatives that his daughter, Amira was missing.
According to Shehu, the parents notified the police in the area and intensive search for the girl was mounted by the parents, relatives and neighbours but to no avail as the girl could not be found.
“Initially, the father was thinking that the girl was kidnapped by criminals who would demand for payment of ransom for her release.”
He explained that two days after, the desperate and worried father went on solo search for his girl just to discover her dead body floating in a soakaway pit some distance away from his house.
The girl was believed to have accidentally fallen into the pit, drowned and died.
All efforts made to speak with the parents of the deceased in Badariya proved abortive as the shock of their daughter’s death prevented them from speaking on the matter.
Meanwhile, people are trooping in to the house of Malam Bello to condole him on the tragic death of his daughter, Amira.
The police public relations officer, DSP Nafiu Abubakar, while confirming the incident to LEADERSHIP Sunday, also described it as unfortunate.
