Bandits Kill 11 Persons, Rustle 28 Cows In Benue

Suspected gunmen, in the early hours of yesterday, killed 11 persons at Ngibo and Tse-Aye villages in Ikyurav-Tiev 1, council ward of Katsina- Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to a source in the area, four persons were killed at Ngibo village, while seven were killed at Tse Aye village with 28 cows rustled from a farm, owned by one Barr Agwaza Atedze, by the bandits.

Our correspondent gathered through a local source in the area that the gunmen, on big motorbikes, besieged the villages between 3am and 4am, yesterday, causing the mayhem.

Two accounts of the attack have, however, been reported. One of the unofficial accounts has it that a wanted criminal suspect, Ghana Akwaza, might have been responsible, while the other said herdsmen perpetrated it.

When contacted, the Benue State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene, who confirmed the incident said, the DPO of Katsina-Ala LGA sent in the report to the headquarters and the command has already mobilised its men to the area to calm the situation.

The PPRO, however, could not state any causality figure as she said the command was still waiting for details.

Meanwhile, it was further gathered that out of fear of the unknown, residents were said to be scampering from the areas to different destinations for safety.
