Participants at the forum are expected to deliberate on developments in the digital space in Africa between 23rd to 25th April, 2019 at Raddison Blu Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos State.
The group said the forum is coming at a time the internet is under persistent attacks across the continent, adding that it is important to leverage on #DRIF19 to draw attention to the issues confronting digital rights and inclusion on the continent.
The Paradigm Initiative’s communications officer, Sodiq Alabi in a press statement expressed delight in the conference saying; “We are excited that delegates from almost 40 countries from Africa and beyond the continent will converge in Lagos.”
“#DRIF provides a pan-African platform for the discussion of issues affecting the digital space in Africa and engenders collaboration towards solving the identified problems. The 2014 edition of the forum produced a dynamic legislation, the Digital Rights and Freedom Bill, which seeks to protect the digital rights of Nigerians, and has inspired similar bills in other countries.
“We are expecting delegates from governments including those of Ghana, and the United States, from companies including Facebook, MainOne and Google, and from human rights groups including Access Now and Freedom House,” he said.
