SDP Chairmanship Candidate, Others Defect To PDP

A chairmanship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the last area council election in Gwagwalada Abubakar Jibrin Giri, has formally dumped the party and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Giri was received into the party’s fold, alongside 5,000 of his supporters by the FCT chairman of PDP, Alhaji Ibrahim Biko and Senator Philip Aduda, at an event held in Gwagwalada, at the weekend.

Among the defectors are former supervisory councillor for education  Kassim Mohammed, APC woman leader for Dobi ward, Aisha Abubakar, former supervisory councillor for health, Ismaila Kukeli, former supervisory councillor for special duties, Halidu Adamu and host of others.  The chairmanship candidate said he decided to defect with his supporters, including some of his former aides to PDP in order to seek another platform, ahead of 2022 council election.

Also speaking, the senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Philip Aduda expressed happiness with the former chairmanship candidate and his supporters for their decision to join the PDP, adding that pitching tent with the PDP would continue to enhance peace, progress and development of not only the council but the entire FCT.

“I have also said that together we shall succeed as anything that is joined together as togetherness is the greatest thing and love. And I know you have various problems in your area councils, but I think that God almighty himself will make it easy and we shall triumph at the end of the day.”
