We’ve seen just about everything thrown at gigs, from iPhones to knickers, lollipops and more than a few fists. But a lemon? Throwing fruit at a performer is just so…medieval. But it happened to Ariana Grande during her headlining Coachella performance on Sunday night.
Video has emerged of Ari being struck by a fruity projectile during the “Right There”/”Break Your Heart Right Back” segment of her set, per Consequence of Sound.
There was no harm, no foul as the fruit bounced harmlessly off her chest. Ari brushed off the sour note. “That’s ’cause one of ya’ll threw a lemon at me, shit,” she told the audience.
Arianators took their fury to Twitter and Billie Eilish’s brother and collaborator has called out the culprit. “If you throw a lemon at Ariana Grande, you’re a piece of shit,” he tweeted.
Who takes a lemon to Coachella anyway? Well, some pop-sleuths with their thinking caps firmly on are connecting the citrus incident with an Internet rumour of a Coachella pay squabble between Beyonce and Grande. Juicy as it sounds, the tale is unverified though Queen Bey did, after all, squish a lot of lemons to make her hit lemonade.
