Train Crushes 4 Tricycle Passengers To Death In Lagos



Tragedy occurred at Iju ishaga area of Lagos State on Tuesday when a commercial tricycle collided with a moving train, killing four of its passengers.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the tragic incident occurred when the tricycle with fiver passengers on board collided with a moving train at the popular Shina Peters Road of the area.

Eye witness accounts blamed the incident which occurred at about 6:52 am on reckless driving, saying that the tricycle driver was trying to cross the rail crossing on top speed, saying one of the passengers, escaped unhurt.

The witness added that among the dead persons were three men and a woman.

Confirming the death of the four passengers, the General Manager Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Mr Adesina Tiamiyu, said that the agency received a distress call via the emergency toll free number 112/767 regarding an accident at the Iju area.

“On arrival at the scene of incident, it was gathered that a tricycle with five people on board had a collision with a moving train at the aforementioned address. Further information gathered at the scene

‘’Unfortunately four persons (three adult males and one adult female) lost their lives while one adult male escape unhurt.

According to him, officials of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), Nigeria Police Force NPF and the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) responded to the accident scene.

He added that the responders recovered the dead bodies and handed over to SEHMU to be moved to the mortuary.

Adesina, however, advised motorists especially tricycle operators to always exercise patience when crossing railway line to avoid unnecessary loss of lives in the state.
