Lagos state is projected to become the largest city in the world by 2100 with the population estimated to reach over 88 million people.
This is according to a new study launched this week in Lagos by Mercer with the theme: People First: Driving Growth in Emerging Megacity, which engages both the private and public stakeholders to leapfrog possible challenges.
Making the announcement at the launching in Lagos, the Strategy and Geographic Expansion Leader, International Partner, for Mercer, Pearly Siffel said “We are in Lagos to drive growth in emerging megacity as Lagos is the most populous city in Africa and is going to be the largest city in the World by the year 2100 having over 88 million people.”

Siffel posited that “Around us are shaping a workforce that will look radically different in few years. Significantly fewer employees, on-demand workforce (focus will be on talents), different skills profile”.
Siffel in her presentation gave four imperatives of success to help organisations grow better. These include: Lead people first growth strategy in your organization; Connect with people as individuals, know them; Deliver the Future Work in the cities of Tomorrow and finally, Lead multi-national.
During her presentation, she added that “organizations need to start with delivering the future of work in the cities of tomorrow by prioritizing human skills (not robots) for a competitive advantage and by creating a roadmap, Lead multi-stakeholder efforts to address pain points at scale.
She urged them to start the transformation with tangible programmes that will make an impact and change the mindset and encourage talent exchange.
Siffel explained that the essence of this is to make cooperate organizations know what drives people and truly understand what drives the organization.
She explicitly said that as a result of this projected- rising population we need public and private organisations to think about what to get done, technology need to advance, organisations must think about how to strike a balance and how to create more job opportunities. To her, the firm is “working Globally with number of organizations to World Economic Forum (WEF), cities people in other to achieve this as much as possible”.
