Al-Makura Presents Staff Of Office To Emir Of Lafia



Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has presented staff of office and certificate to the new emir of Lafia, Justice Bage Muhammed I.

It would be recalled that Justice Bage, was appointed the 17th Emir of Lafia, on the 26th of March, after the demise of the former emir, Dr Isa Mustapha, Agwai, on January 10th, 2019.

The well-attended occasion took place at the Lafia parade ground, with dignitaries from across the country in attendance.

The event had in attendance, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar; the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi; the governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abubakar; the acting Supreme Court Judge, Justice Tanko Mohammed; former CJN, Alfa Belgore; president, court of appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa.

Others are the Gbon-gwom, Jos, Jacob Buba Gyang; the Tor Tiv, Prof James Ayatse; Nasarawa State governor elect, Eng A A Sule and his deputy, Emmanuel Akabe; the deputy governors of Benue, Nasarawa and Kano States; the chief judges of Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kogi States among other dignitaries.

Speaking at the occasion, Governor Al-Makura, warned that any traditional ruler that is involved in any conflict would be severely dealt with.

“Your Excellences, Your Highnesses, ladies and gentlemen, in conclusion, I wish to draw the attention of the traditional rulers on the imperative of peace in their domains. The recent unfortunate spike in ethnic conflict in some areas of the state will be investigated and any traditional ruler found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with our extant laws,” he said.

The emir of Lafia, Justice Bage, in his response, promised to sustain the good legacies of the late emir, Dr Isa Mustapha Agwai I.

He called on parents to prioritise the upbringing of their children saying that is the only legacy parents can bequeath on their children.

“Let me, therefore, use the opportunity provided by this event to remind all parents, generally, that we have a huge responsibility in the up bringing of our children. We must heed the fact that worthy children are beneficial,” he said.
