Police Arrest 70 Kidnappers In Katsina



These are certainly not the best of times for the criminal elements ravaging Katsina State as no fewer than 70 suspected kidnappers including the five gunmen that abducted  Hajiya Hauwa Yusuf, mother in-law of the state governor, Aminu Bello Masari, the state commissioner of police, Sanusi Buba, has said.

Briefing newsmen in Katsina yesterday, CP Buba disclosed that the police recovered from the scores of gunmen apprehended by “Operation Puff Adder” during its team’s sting operations at various locations in the state  no fewer than 54 rifles, seven locally made pistols,19 dane guns and 1700 7.62mm ammunition and cartridges for AK47, light assault rifles, Travon rifles, English pistols and pump action rifles.

He also stated that the operation comprising IGP Special Task Forces, SARS Patrol Teams, Counter Terrorism Units, and Police Mobile Force during their swift attacks against criminal dens and hideouts of suspected bandits recovered five vehicles, one tricycle, 44 motorcycles, 33 petrol Jeri cans of 25 litre capacity each, five bags of food items and other incriminating exhibits.

He said: “It is worthy to mention among other successes recorded, the smashing of notorious syndicate of kidnap suspects that abducted Hajia Hauwa Yusuf, 80, of Kofar Kaura Layout, Katsina, the mother-in-law of the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, on March 8, 2019.

“Those arrested were Abdullahi m. Sani, alias ‘Kubi,” male, 23, of Sokoto Rima Quarters, Katsina; Abubakar Dani, ALIAS “Dan-Bose,” m, 25, of Sabuwar Unguwar Quarters, Katsina; Rabe Hamza, alias “Tankabaje,” m, 30, of Nasarawa-Bugaje, Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State; and Marwana Gide, m, 25, of Yar-Maiwa village, Batsari LGA of Katsina State.

“The last suspect, Abdulhakim Bishir, alias, “Danruma,” 22, of Sabuwar Unguwar Quarters, Katsina, who has been on the run was arrested by the police on Tuesday 14th May, 2019 in Kano State. The suspects confessed to the crime and are assisting the police in their investigation.”

Recall that Governor Masari’s mother in-law, Hajia Hauwa Yusuf, the mother of Hajiya Binta Masari, regained her freedom in Katsina after one week in captivity.

CP Buba further warned any person aiding the bandits with information or provision of logistics to desist from such unwholesome practice or be prepared to face the consequences.
