Speakership: Aspirants Present Manifesto To PDP Members-elect



Contenders for the speakership position of the 9th House of Representatives yesterday stood before Members-elect of the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to articulate their plans for the House if elected.

This is as top aspirant, Hon Mohammed Umar Bago, assured the lawmakers that chairmanship and deputies of committees in the House would be equally shared by all parties.

The event which was organised by the PDP Representatives was to provide the aspirants the opportunity to  present their individual plans for the House as well as its members and also solicit their support.

The event saw all but one of the contestants, Femi Gbajabiamila,  take turns to address the gathering.

Gbajabiamila it was learnt was still on his campaign tour to the South East and South South.

In her presentation, Hon Nkeiruka Onyejeocha while noting reasons why she should be elected for the seat, assured the legislators of a good working relationship between her leadership and each member.

She also promised to run an all-inclusive House where all members would be carried along regardless of party affiliation.

Similarly, Hon. John Dyegh who noted that the Northeast zone deserved the position, informed that under his leadership, an amendment would be made to the constitution by extending the tenure of legislature from four to six years.

On his part, Hon Bago promised that committee headship would be proportionately shared between all parties.

Upon this announcement, the gathering erupted into cheers and applause as the lawmakers gave him a standing ovation while chanting, “Bago, Bago, Bago”.
