FG Launches Checklist For Tertiary Health Institutions

The Federal Government has launched a checklist for assessing the progress, performance and quality of healthcare services provided in the Federal Tertiary Health Institutions (FTHIs) in Nigeria.

Speaking at the launching in Abuja, the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole said, “checklist will enable all persons to have access to safe and quality surgical care with finance ease when needed.

“We will also use the document as a basis for budget preparation, because if you want they to have all their need, you must make provision for it.

“All the federal tertiary health institutions should therefore put in place a quality improvement plan with strategic anchor on the elements of clinical governance and with emphasis on the three aspects of continuous improvement: Structure, process and patient outcome.

“It be a change to tertiary institutions healthcare system and this is all we have been waiting for.

According to him, this will no doubt provide a system that will improve healthcare indices, reduce medical tourism, provide more employment, reduce poverty and result in economic growth of Nigeria,” he said.

The minister also launched the National Surgical Obstetrics, Anaesthesia and Nursing Plan (NSOANP) a strategic priority for surgical care produced in line with National Strategic Health Development Plan 11.
