Group Applauds Emefiele’s Reappointment

A civil society group, Team Support Nigeria (TSN), has expressed confidence that the reappointment of Godwin Emefiele, as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)  for another term of five years will futher boost the economy.

The group in a statement in Abuja yesterday said the action of President Muhammadu Buhari would reassure investors and Nigeria’s partners of the economic direction of the country, adding that it would help sustain nation’s economic growth.

The national coordinator, Team Support Nigeria, Sir Chidi Onwumere in the statement noted the progress made in various sectors of the economy during the Emefiele’s first term and commended President Buhari for the reappointment.

Onwumere said, “We commend President Muhammadu Buhari for his statesmanship and clearheaded decision that serves to stabilize the system and reassure the nation and its partners of the economic direction of his administration in the face of doom predictions, subterfuge and blackmail against the person of the incumbent CBN Governor.

“We are convinced that the reappointment could not have been out of place, judging from the steady hands and sure footed carriage of Mr. Godwin Emefiele in the discharge of his duties, that saw the nation not only survive the worst economic recession in decades, but set the economy back on the path of sustainable growth and development.

“We note particularly the CBN’s successful intervention in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, the creative industry, micro, small and medium scale enterprises etc, that has seen the turnaround of many such endeavours; thereby creating jobs, creating wealth and ultimately boosting the gross domestic and gross national products of Nigeria.

“It is in the light of the above that we urge all well-meaning Nigerians to rise up, shun cynicism and rally round the government at all levels and the newly appointed CBN Governor with the necessary support to achieve their set policy agenda towards making Nigeria a deserved economic hub of Africa and indeed the world, by so doing secure our pride of place in the comity of nations”, he added.
