Senator Demands Budget Implementation C’ttee

Senator representing Katsina south, Senator Abu Ibrahim, over the weekend urged President Muhammadu Buhari to establish budget implementation panel and charge it with responsibility to monitor execution of projects under the 2019 fiscal year.

Senator Ibrahim who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Labour and Productivity, stated that regular monitoring of project execution by minister has become necessary to check lapses that may occur after the release of funds as witnessed during past governments.

The four time senator who is not returning to the 9th senate said that the report of the committee will enable the President to determine the success or failure of individual ministers or agencies in his government.

On the reservations by President Buhari, especially on the increase of the budget size, he noted that though he does not know the  details of the observations, the President can raise a supplementary budget for the consideration of the next Senate as appropriation amendment.

On the dragging N30,000 minimum wage, Ibrahim insists it must be implemented as passed and signed into law.

State governors, he said, should look for a way of sourcing for money to pay.

According to him, the governors should look inwards to raise more revenue and cut expenses “because if you don’t have enough to pay labour, corruption will be all over the place.”

On the election of the presiding officers of the Ninth National Assembly, he noted that it is unfair to say the President Buhari should not have interest about who becomes the next Senate President.

The President, he said, has to identify someone he can work with harmoniously “although he may not openly campaign for the person.”

Ibrahim said, “The President is not barred from making preference. We need competent leadership.

“The party must come in to do the zoning of the positions, which it has done. The issue of imposition is misunderstood. If someone is recommended, he must be elected by the senators on the floor.

“The only thing is that people have to subject themselves to the principles of their parties.

“Anybody conniving with PDP should be expelled. The party has done everything for you, so you should be expelled.

“You see people who are ambitious somehow, unfortunately only see themselves.

“I have never seen any democracy that the party does not come into a reflection of leadership or the outgoing leader does not show preference”.

Buhari/Osinbajo Support Groups Task PMB On Credible Appointments

A coalition of the major support groups for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election at the 2019 presidential election has called for only credible Nigerians in his new cabinet.

The support groups further urged the Nigerian leader to execute only people-oriented policies and programmes in the next four years.

Led by the Barristers for Buhari and Osinbajo/Grassroots Movement, the All Progressives Congress Concerned Forum and others, the coalition appealed to the president to justify the confidence the people reposed in him through their huge votes by doing better in his second term.

One of the ways the president can achieve this, according to the pro-Buhari/Osinbajo groups, is by selecting only credible persons to form the heart of his cabinet.

In a congratulatory message they sent to the president on his inauguration for a second term in office, the conveners, Comrade Jonathan Ogwuche, Barr. Isabella Odunayo, Bello Kuriash, Barr. Emmanuel Isangidoho, lauded the contributions of some individuals to the victory of Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the polls.

They said: “We are very impressed as a group at the way the campaign team collaborated with the support groups which is unprecedented in the history of presidential campaign in Nigeria.

“Of particular note are the tireless efforts of the APC national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the SA to national secretary of the APC, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Adamu, Dr. Samuel Ankeli, the SA to Mr. President on Disabilities and Dr. Ebisintei Awudu, the surveyor-general of the federation (SGOF).

“These men worked daily and kept pushing for the enthronement of the Next Level. The SA to the national secretary of the APC particularly used his private sector ideology, keeping proper records and many members of support groups learnt a lot from his administrative abilities in line with the change mantra.

“As staunch believers in the President Buhari leadership and anti-corruption stance, we are not surprised at all at the president’s ability to see performance from far and bring such people onboard for the greater good of Nigerians,” the groups said.
