Coalition of Integrity Political Parties (CIPP), yesterday, endorsed the House leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, for Speakership of the 9th National Assembly.

The national spokesperson of the Coalition and chairman of the New Generation Party (NGP), Dr Asu Yakubu Shendam, who stated this in Abuja while addressing journalists on state of the nation, also condemned the unhealthy approach and unnecessary utterances against Gbajabiamila by some persons.

According to him, “It is foolhardy that a respected Nigerian citizen, who has been elected to the House of Representatives on three occasions as an Honourable Member of the House and Majority Leader, with all security screenings conducted and concluded without indictment, could be besieged by these lightweight political parties to the Green Chamber in order to have legitimacy in the tussle for who becomes Speaker of the House.”

He said Nigerians should know better that Hon Gbajabiamila is not only a fine legislator but a respected one across the two chambers of the National Assembly; thus, well deserving of his personality, capacity and experience in assuming the mantle of leadership of the House of Representatives.

He added, “The Coalition wishes to use this opportunity to announce our firm and unequivocal choice and support for the candidature of Hon Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the Ninth House of Representatives.

“Hence, all operations of the Coalition have been geared towards ensuring the successful actualisation of this project, and for a better leadership of the House of Representatives, and by extension, translate into meaningful policy development and administration for all Nigerians.”

0n the State of the nation, the Coalition commended the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari in checkmating the attempted spread of security challenges across the country, particularly in Northern Nigeria, and other parts of the country, which the security agencies have put in the desired strategies to curb the operations of these bandits, kidnappers and other elements.

“That Mr President should, in this new administration, extend a hand of fellowship to Nigerians of good faith who will be great assets in driving home his good plans and agenda, irrespective of ethnic, political or religious lineage or social status,” he added.
