BY ANKELI EMMANUEL,  Sokoto

The composition of the leadership of the 9th House of Assembly of Sokoto State has altered many permutations as Alhaji Aminu Achida (APC- Wurno) emerged the speaker while Ibrahim Magaji (PDP-Bodinga) emerged deputy speaker, respectively.

This development, which followed their first sitting yesterday left many wondering because the APC, has small majority. The APC has 16 lawmakers as against PDP’s 14 lawmakers in the 9th Assembly.

Aminu Achida, who eventually emerged speaker, was believed not to be the preferred choice of the APC as he was nominated by a PDP lawmaker.

In the voting supervised by the acting Clerk of the House,  Abdulrazak Shehu, Hon Achida defeated  Alhaji Abdullahi Sidi (APC- Gwadabawa South) to become the speaker having pulled 16 votes as against his opponent who got 13 votes.

Abubakar Magaji (PDP) who was nominated by Malami Muhammad (PDP- Sokoto South II), scored 17 votes to defeat Alhaji Isa Harisu (APC- Kebbe), who was nominated by Abdullahi Zakari (APC- Rabah) and scored 12 votes while one vote was invalid.

In his speech after the elections, the new speaker thanked them for the confidence reposed in him and the new leadership and promised to ensure all-inclusive legislation for the overall benefit of the people of the state.

The 9th Assembly however adjourned till 9th of July 2019 for commencement of sitting.
