NDE Trains 550 Youths On Vocational Skills



The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) said it had started training 550 unemployed youths in vocational skills.

The state coordinator of the NDE, Mrs Naomi Mutah Nyadar said this yesterday during the induction and orientation of Basic National Open Apprenticeship Skills (BNOAS) trainees and five Advance -National Open Apprenticeship Skills (ANOAS) trainees under the Vocational Skills Development Department of the NDE in Bwari, FCT Abuja.

Mrs Nyadar said the 550 youths both men and women would be trained in different trades under the basic skills acquisition training of the Directorate.

According to her the vocational skills is one of NDE’s job creation programmes primarily concerned with providing productive and marketable skills to unemployed youths, men and women in the country. She added that these skills acquisition intervention has remained a veritable tool in combating mass unemployment since the inception of the agency in 1987.

“The objective of the VSD is to provide technical and vocational training for the unemployed, unskilled youths, men and women who wish to be trained in the identified marketable skills”.

“The orientation and induction is organised to enable our selected participants to have a pre-knowledge of what the training entails and what should be expected of them in the course of the training,” she said.

The state coordinator further said that the training will last for a period of three months, and this will include; fashion designing, electrical installation, welding, facial make up, hair dressing, catering, interior decoration and computer appreciation respectively while that of Advance -National Open Apprenticeship Skills (ANOAS) will be computer training and catering.
