Benue Lawmaker Promises To Tackle Challenges

A former  chairman, at  Benue State   Local Government Service Commission, Richard Gbande, said that having served the state in various capacities,  he was well grounded with issues that  confront the people on a daily basis and will use his wealth of experience to tackle them headlong as a federal lawmaker.

He also expressed sadness over gross under-representation of the constituents over the years declaring that he was poised to effect a change in that direction.

Comrade Gbande who made his views known during a  chat with newsmen  at a reception organised in his honour after taking oath of office at the Green Chambers, also advised the executive arm of government to accord the House its due respect by avoiding acts capable of undermining  the legislative powers.

“I am thankful to God and my constituents over this feat.   As you already know, today    I have  been sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives  to  which I must say am humbled and grateful to the entire people of Sankera  and leaders of the party at the various levels in Benue  State’’.

“I am a grassroots person with a deep understanding of the complexities of my constituency especially as regards what the people need to better their standards of living and so, coming from this background, I know exactly the kind of legislation that will favour my people.

“We have never had it very good in terms of representation since our leader, Senator  Gabriel Suswam left and one of the major reasons for this has been the tendency of electing people who are completely  disconnected with the people,” he said.

Gbande who is also the former national vice chairman, Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), explained that having been made to shelve his ambition in 2011, in obedience to the collective decision of the party leadership and stakeholders, he was overwhelmed that his continued loyalty had finally paid off.

Comrade Gbande called on  the people to redouble their support for the PDP elected officials at all levels to enable them  deliver on their mandates.

While commending Governor Samuel Ortom, Dr. Gabriel Suswam and the leadership of the party in the state over their support that enabled him to clinch the seat, Comrade Gbande promised not to disappoint them.
