The International Cricket Council (ICC) has described the collaboration between the federal government and Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) for the development of cricket in the country as outstanding.
ICC Senior Manager of development, Mr Andy Hobbs, stated this while interacting with Nigerian journalists on the level of development of cricket in Nigeria, at the Media Centre of Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, yesterday.
Bobbs who is the leader of ‘ICC 360 Review’ delegations, are in Nigeria for a holistic assessment and screening of Nigeria’s cricket activities.
He said a total of 105 countries are playing the game of cricket around the globe and Nigeria is making steady progress in the game, saying the interest of ICC is to grow the number of the country and people playing cricket.
“The partnership between the Nigeria’s government and Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) is outstanding and that was why you were able to qualify for ICC U-19 World Cup in South Africa”.
“Nigeria has a great potential to grow cricket and you have made great progress because there is a strong foundation for cricket development in Nigeria and we are quite impressed with it.
The essence of coming here is to meet with people and talk about the development of cricket in Nigeria and how Nigerians see the game of cricket,” he said.
The ICC 360 Review delegations are expected to be in Nigeria for a week, touring Abuja and Lagos for overall assessment of Nigeria growth in cricket.
Earlier, NCF President, Adams Ukwenya Yahaya said his administration have succeeded in placing guidelines for the development of cricket in the country.
