The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has accused leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State, of sponsoring a non existent group of Imo APC Professionals and stakeholders, who they described as professional political character assassins, to assassinate the political image of the governorship candidate of the APC in the state in the last election, Senator Hope Uzodimma, in an effort to stop him from rebuilding APC in the state and the South east.
The Imo APC leaders said the signatories to a petition to President Muhammadu Buhari against a possible ministerial appointment for the politician could not have come from the state nor members of APC because they failed to provide details of their Wards, local government areas and their membership card registration numbers in APC.
They also accused the Imo State PDP leaders of being behind the phony group acting out of frustration over their failure to persuade Uzodimma to withdraw his petition at the Governorship and House of Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal against the declaration of Emeka Ihedioha as winner of the March governorship election in the state.
Rising from a meeting of APC Stakeholders in Owerri at the weekend, attended by the state chairman, Chief Marcelenus Nlemigbo and all members of the caretaker committee, former members of the National Assembly, including Sen. Benjamin Uwajimogu and Hon. Goodluck Opiah, all candidates of the party at the last elections and other notable stakeholders.
The leaders in a resolution said that the PDP leaders sponsoring the unknown group apart from venting their frustrating over their failure to make the APC candidate withdraw his petition, were also worried sick that a federal appointment for Uzodimma will energize the party in the state and help the candidate to rebuild APC in the South East.
The resolution also insisted that the so called Imo APC Professionals and Stakeholders was a rag tag crop of professional political assassins hastily put together by PDP leaders in collaboration with a few APC saboteurs just to weaken the chances of having an opportunity for Sen. Uzodimma to revitalize APC in the state and the South east, adding that Imo APC will be too glad to have him appointed a minister because he has all it takes to reposition the party in both Imo State and the South East.
