South East Groups Tip Okorocha For Senate Majority Leader

A Coalition of Ohanaeze Youth and South East Professionals yesterday asked the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider the former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha as the next senate majority leader or for any other position that is allocated for the zone in the 9th Senate.

The group at a joint briefing yesterday in Abuja specifically urged the party to cede the position of Senate majority leader to South East as the only way to give the zone a sense of belonging under the current dispensation.

According to them, Okorocha remains the authentic face of APC in the zone.

The group said, “Okorocha remains faithful to the party even in the face of his recent political travails and we ask the ruling party to endorse him for any principal office position zoned to the South East by APC in the 9th senate as a reward for party loyalty.

“Okorocha is most qualified for the job, having served as the only APC former governor in the zone, former chairman of APC Governors Forum and only APC presidential aspirant from the zone in 2015.”

LEADERSHIP Friday recalls that former governors, Rochas Okorocha and Orji Uzor Kalu, are currently locked in a battle for the position of Senate majority leader.

Coordinator of the coalition, Emeka Ohaeri said, “We see Okorocha as the face APC in the south East , he remained faithful to the party even in the face of his political travails “.

Two South East groups under the umbrella of South East Presidential Support Committee and South East Equity Alliance had earlier called on the leadership of APC and federal government to give the zone a sense of belonging in the country by ceding the positions of Senate Majority Leader and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), to the South East.
