The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has promised to provide an enabling environment for all women within the territory to succeed in their fields of endeavours.

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) permanent secretary, Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa, who gave the promise yesterday at a dinner organised in honour of  the facilitator of Support for Women and Youth in Africa, De-lois Blackely, stated that the administration would continue to run an inclusive system that would provide women with the same opportunities that the men enjoyed.

Ohaa explained that in line with the equal opportunities provided by the administration, most top positions at the Social Development Secretariat (SDS) are being occupied by women.

Represented by a director in his office, Atang Udo Atang, the permanent secretary noted that the history of women in all African countries and beyond shows their outstanding contributions to the success of their societies.

“Here in FCT, women have the same opportunity with men. Most of the directors at the Social Development Secretariat (SDS) are women. This shows how keen we are about gender balance.

There are  other areas that the women have been given  the right to operate. We believe that involving them more in scheme of activities will encourage them to support men better. Women contributions in time memorial cannot just be jettisoned.”

Earlier in a remark, De-lois Blackely, fondly known as ‘Queen Mother Africa, urged the FCT administration to always give women the necessary opportunities for them to excel.

While stating that the future depends on what the female, especially the mothers put in place, Blackely called on the women to be agent of improving their societies, irrespective of the situation that may arise.

“Women deserve equal opportunity in any given society so that they can add value to what men do. Therefore, women must live the back seat and take the front seat.”
