Nigerian Navy Officers Wife Association (NOWA) donated food items to widows and orphans who lost their loved ones during service.
The gift which consists of different foods items were shared at a one day sensitization workshop with widows and orphans themed: “Navigating the storm: Sailing forward” held in Lagos.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chief of Naval Staff and the Special guest of honor, Vice Admiral, Ikot-Ete- Ibas, said that the huge numbers of widows and orphans living in extreme poverty make up a great figure.
Ibas who was represented by the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) of Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral, Oladele Daji rues challenges that widows face in society saying losing a partner at any age has severe impact on well- being.
He however assured that the event will go a long way to ameliorate the feeling of loneliness, social isolation, exclusion and hardship faced by widows
Also speaks at the event, President of Naval Officer Wife Association(NOWA) Mrs. Theresa Ibas, said the theme is not only focusing on empowering women but also providing some of the needed knowledge required to sail during storm of life.
