The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has sensitized over 600 women and youths on peacebuilding initiative in Daura Maia’dua and Sandamu local Government Areas of Katsina state.
The three days sensitisation campaign in partnership with member representing the three LGAs at Federal House Representative, Hon. Fatahu Muhammed, was aimed at educating and englighting the people see need for peaceful coexistence among them.
While declaring the program open, the Director General of the Institute Dr. Bakut Bakut, expressed concern over the incessant banditry and criminality bedevilling the state and country at large
The DG who earlier paid courtesy visit to the Emir of Daura, Alh. Umar Faruk and other traditional chiefs within the constituency, urged them to align themselves in the sensitisation campaign by way of preaching peace to their subjects particularly the abuse of drug which in most cases responsible for the crimes.
“we are encouraging our royal fathers and the religious leaders to continue doing their resposibilities as the Institute would continue to seek for their support for the sustainable peace in our communities, this is why we find it very important to come and pay homage to the Emir.
“we are here to sensitize our youths and women on the importance of peacebuilding in this Federal Constituency, we are here to inform you about the programme and to receive blessing from your royal highness”.
“Our job is to ensure that youths are sensitize on the need to live in peace. Before coming here sir, we have visited the chiefs in all the three local governments and advocate for peace considering the roles they played in maintaining peace and security in our locality”, the DG added
He assured that the Institute would work with traditional rulers to ensure that youths are not misled by unpatriotic citizens, he called on the youths and women to live in peace with one another, saying without peace there would be no meaningful development.
He explained further that conflict prevent investment and investors which consequently lead to poverty, urging the youth to engage themselves in regering community services in their respective areas.
Responding, the Emir of Daura Alh. Umar Faruk Umar commended the Director General IPCR Dr. Bakut Bakut and the Hon. Fatahu Muhammed for the initiating programme, saying it would go far in cementing the good relationship among the people.
He assured his continue support for anything that would promote peace, progress and development of katsina State and the nation at large.
Earlier, in his keynote address, Barr. Gabriel Jiya, Director coordinating the activities in the Director Generals office IPCR, called on government and other private stakeholders to involve women in peacebuildibg decision making.
On her part, the APC women leader, Sandamu Local government Area Mrs. Fatimah Shazali appreciated Hon. Muhammed Fatahu for partnering IPCR for educating 600 residents of the area on peaceful coexistence.
