Bandits have renewed attacks in some parts of Shiroro and Minta local government areas of Niger State.

LEADERSHIP  gathered that the gunmen attacked Galkogo and Zumba villages in Shiroro local government area of the state and killed one Mobile policeman and shot three other security men in a joint patrol team.

An unspecified number of the villagers were allegedly abducted by the gunmen who also killed a six- year-old girl, during the attack.

It was gathered that the  armed men attacked the villages with more  than 50 motorcycles shooting at random.

The police public relations officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the attacks, but said that the details were yet to be ascertained.

He, however, disclosed that the state commissioner of police, Adamu Usman, had since deployed special squads in the area to help tackle the challenges.

The police spokesman said that “details of the attacks are still very sketchy. I called the area commander in the affected local governments, although he confirmed the attacks, he said that they were still gathering information. So, we have not received any information about the casualties. At the moment, the commissioner of police, CP Adamu Usman has deployed all special squads in the area, including anti-kidnapping squad, anti-terrorists squad, among others. They are on the trail of the assailants,” Abiodun said.

Meanwhile, the senator representing Niger East Senatorial District, Mohammed Sani Musa has commiserated with the people of Galkogo and Zumba communities over the incident.

Senator Musa condemned the dastardly act, describing it as “unfortunate, barbaric and sad.”

He said that at a time when the entire world was in dire need of prayers to overcome the pandemic of coronavirus, some people were still determined to take the peace of others.

“I received with shock the attacks on Galkogo and Zumba on Sunday. It is really unfortunate, barbaric and sad that at a time when the entire world is bedeviled with the coronavirus pandemic, some people are still in hell’s way trying to destroy the peace being enjoyed by the citizens,” Senator Musa said.
