3 Killed, 2 Injured In Niger Communal Clash



Three persons have been killed and two others injured in a communal clash between Dabogi and Ekkun communities in Kpada ward of Lapai local government area of Niger state.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the clash was fuelled by a lingering dispute over a piece of land in the area which has been a subject of litigation in the court.

Sources said that some youths from one of the communities involved in the dispute were preparing part of the disputed piece of land for the farming season on Monday when the other viallge mobilised to stop them prompting the attack and counter attack.

The youths allegedly used dangerous weapons which led to the death of three persons and the injured before policemen were mobilised from Lapai to the scene

The state command police public relations officer, Wasiu Abiodun, who confirmed  the incident to LEADERSHIP, stated that the Lapai Divisional Police Office had returned normalcy to the communities.

He said the village head and youth leaders of the affected communities were invited and after that,  those found to have caused  the clash might be taken for questioning.

Abiodun said that the police will continue to ensure that peace was sustained in the communities as men of the command were stationed in the area to forestall further breaking of law and order.
