A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Dr Ori Obasi, has described the travails Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu is passing through as signals of his emerging brighter political future.
Obasi stated this in an exclusive interview with LEADERSHIP Weekend in Umuahia, the state’s capital, saying Kalu’s period of incarceration must have offered him additional lessons in humility and leadership.
She described the quashing of the conviction of the former governor of the state by the Supreme Court as an act of God, adding she and her entire family would remain grateful to Him for this.
According to Obasi, who served the state in ministries of Agriculture, and Education under Senator T.A Orji, as commissioner said, they, like other members of the party are very delighted about the judgement.
“The senator is such a kind hearted person who did not deserve his fate,” she maintained, expressing the hope that “the Almighty God, who did it for him at the apex court will see him through again.”
She insisted the judgment had further demonstrated the judiciary as the last hope of the common man, adding she wished all could troop to Abuja to join them in the celebration.
The apex court had in a unanimous judgement read by Justice Ejembi Eko nullified the sentencing of the Senate Chief Whip by Justice Mohammed Liman of a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.
According to the court, Liman, having been elevated to the Court of Appeal when he delivered the judgement, was no longer eligible to continue with the matter, and therefore ordered a retrial.
