The concerned citizens of Abia north have dismissed reports they were sponsored to protest at the National Assembly over the continuous non- representations of Abia north in the senate .
In a statement by the National coordinator, Concerned Citizen of Abia north, Abuja, Chukwu Chukwudi described the allegation as another cheap political blackmail.
The statement reads “Our attention has been drawn to a recent online publication in which one Mr Chibuike Jonas of the All Progressive Congres (APC) was reported to have  maliciously accused Distinguished Senator Mao Ohuabunwa of sponsoring the Tuesday massive anti Orji Uzor-Kalu protest in Abuja.
“Ordinarily, we would have ignored this ranting but for the erroneous impression this unfounded allegation may cause.
“We can understand the frustration of Mr Jonas and his display of ignorance here. Mr Jonas and his pay master ought to have known that such exercise  ( protest ) was in according with section  -40-of the 1999 constitution which guarantee freedom of association, speech and assembly.
“We view the allegation here as another cheap political blackmail and infantile but failed  attempt by Mr Jonas and his likes to distract the people’s Senator  and his unrelenting supporters  in our  legitimate struggle to recover his stolen mandate .
“We cannot be deterred by this  baseless allegation by Jonas and his cohorts whom we learnt have been having sleepless night over the turn of events in Abia North .
“And for emphasis the struggle to recover this stolen mandate has become a mass movement in Abia north and not even Jonas or his sponsors can stop.
He further explained that  Tuesday protest in Abuja was just one of many protests that would come in the course of this popular movement both in Abia and Abuja.
“As a group we have no regret in our asking the president of the Senate Senator Ahmad Lawan to declare Abia north seat in the red chamber vacant since convicted  Chief Kalu has failed to meet the provisions of section 63 and 68 of the 1999 constitution.
“Chief Kalu has  been absent from Senate sitting for over 60 legislative days and therefore deemed to have lost his membership of the Senate.  This is the truth Jonas and his likes do not want to face . And for records Distinguished Senator Ohuabunwa was never privy and does not need to the Tuesday protest.
“We were told that people under the umbrella  of concerned citizen of Abia north in the exercise of their fundamental human right  decided to make former presentation of a letter to the president of the Senate asking him to declare the seat of Chief Kalu in the Senate vacant .
“Membership of the group were drawn from the six local government areas that make up Abia north.
It’s therefore laughable for Jonas to have claimed that such persons are not from Abia north,” he added.
