A beneficiary, Ned Munir Nwoko of Riok Nigeria Limited has commended the federal government over plans to clear some parts of its domestic judgement debts. Nwoko said if part of the debts are cleared, the debt profile of the government will be drastically reduced.
It was gathered that a document dated 28/2/2020 and signed by the former Chief of Staff to the President late Abba Kyari and titled, ‘’Liquidation Of Judgement Debts On Behalf Of Federal MDGs, States And Local’’, the request was forwarded to the office of the Finance minister asking her to liaise with the Accountant General of the Federation and also the Hon Attorney General and Minister of Justice to work out a modality for the payment of some of the debts.
The letter reads in part, “Accordingly you are kindly requested to engage the Federal Ministry of Justice to discuss and agree on a specific and appropriate funding proposal to inform the president’s directives on the relevant issue.”
A document forwarded under cover of this memo explains that the payment is to be made pursuant to a judgement obtained in suit no FHC/ABJ/CS/148/20172017 which arose from a dispute in connection with the Paris club debt refund.
