The Imo state command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has seized 621,085 kilograms of hard drugs in lmo state.
The hard drug seized include: cannabis sativa, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine otherwise called mkpurumiri, tramadol and rephynol among others.
Briefing journalists in Owerri, the Imo state capital the NDLEA state Commander of Narcotics, Mr. Nse Inam stated that the current COVID-19 pandemic had affected their activities in the first half of the year 2020, adding that the worst hit was on the agency’s public enlightenment and hard drug education.
“In the area of prosecution, the command did not also fare better as the Federal High Court Owerri, was also shut down. We are now relieved that the court has started sitting”.
Commending the stakeholders for the above breakthroughs, he stated that the state command would not have achieved the above without their cooperation.
He also appreciated the supports from the Agency’s national headquarters, Abuja, Imo state Government and the media. He noted that the command would continue to explore all avenues to ensure that the problems of drug abuse and illicit trafficking were reduced to the lowest ebb in the state.
He said “As we re-strategize to ensure love that the state is not a safe place for illicit drug activities, we therefore call on all public spirited individuals, relevant stakeholders and Imolites to continue to extend their supports to NDLEA in order to achieve the above goal for the benefit of all”.
