COVID-19: Ayade Charges Residents To Begin Personal Lockdown



Gov. Ben Ayade of Cross River State yesterday charged residents of the state to commence the process of  personal lockdown in order  to forestall possible outbreak of COVID-19 in the state due to relaxing of  band on interstates movement by  federal Government early this week.
Ayade gave the charge in Calabar during a meeting with members of the COVID-19 Response Team led by its chairman  Dr Betta Edu and other team members.
The Governor explained that  recent decision of the Federal government to relax   the ban on interstate movement means the state no longer has powers to restrict movement and residents need to take the lead in protecting themselves.
“As a resident of the state, if you think that by easing the lockdown, you are now safer, no, now you are more in danger, this is a time for you to commence personal lockdown.
“At this point, the state has been handed over to the Federal government; all our borders are now opened following the lifting of the ban on interstate movement.
“Residents of the state must know that we no longer have control over our borders. We  have surrendered to the supremacy of the Federal government”, Gov. Ben Ayade stressed.
The State Governor lauded residents of Cross River State  for support  the  state government during the first phase of of out break of coronavirus pandemic stressing that the authority of the state did whatever that was needful to ensure that spread of COVID-19 into the state was given a tough fight despite all odds.
Ayade thanked the federal ministry of health as well as the National Center for Diseases Control  for championing a world class response to the pandemic.
The Governor averred that  COVID-19 Team will continue to be on the road to keep an eye on the people and donated 30 million naira to the team in appreciation of their untiring efforts.
In his earlier remarks,the Chairman  COVID-19 Response Team/Commissioner for Health Dr Betta Edu lauded  the Governor Ayade for giving everything to ensure the state is free from the virus.
Edu lauded her colleagues of the medical profession and other members of the COVID-19 Response Team for the vital role which they played ensuring that the state remained COVID-19 free.

She commended them for sacrificing their comfort and spending endless nights particularly at tbe Calabar Itu headbridge and along other roads in across the state and numerous border points to ensure the safety and win the war against spread of coronavirus in the state.
